The Circle Theatre opened in 1916 as one of the nation's first grand movie palaces. Through the efforts of the Indiana Symphony Society, it reopened on October 12, 1984 as the home of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. It was generously endowed by Stephen and Tomisue Hilbert in December 1996 and renamed the Hilbert Circle Theatre.
Most beautiful space in town. Pitty it is not more of a theatre...Hilbert Circle Music Hall is what it should be called. No wing or fly space... the lights suck. But the house is gorgeous and location is fierce. IRT destroyed their space with the renovation... sad.
I'm a big fan of old, renovated buildings...I like feeling like I've stepped into the past. This is a great example of that type of building. Extremely beautiful, great character, and amazing performances!
