This world-class institution is a hands-on overview of the best Indiana has to offer. Constructed from all Indiana materials including limestone, sandstone, steel, brick and glass, the building itself is a work of art. Discover icons representing each of Indiana’s 92 counties on the exterior, then step inside to explore Indiana’s past, present and future through artistic, cultural and scientific exhibits.
Great Museum, even though Childrens Museum is also great, at least at the Indiana State Museum you dont have all those winney screaming kids who their parents let them run around the place with no regard to the rest of the those visiting, and the staff of the Childrem's Museum just sit there and let the kids run around wild, We wanted to stay and look at the Childrens Museum but had to leave and forfeit our money because we couldnt stand the runnin screaming kids and all the parents that refused to control their kids.
I love the Indiana State Museum. They always have the best events for families. I love the Sunday Serenades, the Summer Music Series, and the traveling exhibits. It will be our daughter's first Christmas this year and we can't wait to take her to the same Santa that I went to when I was young. If you haven't been in a while, you should revisit it, so much has changed. I learn something new every time I go!
This is a completely different museum from back in the 70's when I was a kid. It's so well done, and so very interesting and informative for kids and adults. I recommend this gem highly.
The location - gorgeous/on the canal/convenient
The first impression - love that gigantic INDIANA entrance sculpture.
The extras - IMAX, tearoom, view, downtown location
Wow! What a change from the old State Museum. I've come a couple of times over the last few months because there is always something different. I saw a guy with all kinds of reptiles, talked to a lady about geodes, an artist making clay sculptures and an Indian doing bead work! I also got to talk to Johnny Appleseed and ride a space bike - who would have thought a museum could be so cool?!?!?!?!?!
