Joe's Butcher Shop & Fish Market is a full service Butcher Shop and Fish Market located in the new Carmel Arts & Design District. Owner Joe Lazzara, a product of corporate employment for twenty years, has always enjoyed cooking with "premium ingredients". Joe knew from his own experience there was a need for Quality, Service, and Selection of "premium ingredients". Joe's Butcher Shop fresh products will enhance your eating experience whether you are a top-tier restaurant chef or a do-it yourselfer at home.
Joe noticed the grocery industry undergoing changes. High-cost Quality, Service, and Selection were victims of these changes. Consolidation, demands by venture capital investors, and "big box" retailers' cost cutting resulted in a meat supply system where meat is cut in a processing plant, shrink wrapped to Styrofoam, shipped to stores, and case stocked. Their systems are 'cost efficient', but a shortened aging period reduces flavor, and factory-cutting adds DAYS of exposure before you cook the meat. They have eliminated the butcher who fresh-cut meat at each store location.
In late 2005 Joe met with Fritz Albright and discussed his vision of a full-service butcher shop and fresh fish market. Fritz is part of the family who owned Albright's Butcher Shop in Northern Indiana for many years. Fritz's father began the business and Fritz ran the business for years until he decided to "semi-retire" and pursue his passion to raise Thoroughbred Racing Horses. By the way, Fritz is not JUST a capable butcher, he is a 30 year experienced Master Butcher.

Everything is delicious, so delicious and yumtastic that I can't buy meat at the grocery store any more. His bacon is killer, pork outstanding, and Joe's premium grind is melt in your mouth delicious. Support the locals--buy from Joe!

Great place. Special cuts of meats and fish are wonderful. Joe and his staff are always pleasant and helpful. They are always willing to give advice on grilling or cooking of their meat. Specialty foods are unique and delicious.

The hardwood-smoked bacon at Joe's is absolutely the best! Once you've tried it, you'll no longer be able to tolerate grocery-store bacon. In fact, all his products are top-notch. And his wines! He carries nothing that rated less than 90 points and nothing that costs more than $20 a bottle. Just outstanding in all respects.

It is worth the drive if you live outside Carmel. The absolute best cut meats and sundries in the state! Oh, and the customer service exceeds all others. Any special requests and they will fullfill.

Joe's has the best of everything! Best customer service, meat, chicken, pork! And, I do not have to worry about hormones or antibiotics in the meats! You really can taste the difference! It is well worth my drive from Fortville to Joe's! I don't care how high the gas goes, I will still make the drive to Joe's!
