The Khoury's family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana from the heart of the Holy Land in 1968. Bethlehem-born Alex Khoury, the youngest in the family attended IUPUI and graduated in 1976 from the school of science. In 1981, Khoury took over a small building on 62nd street and transformed it into a small modest eatery, along with a small market, calling it Korey's. At that time, the place took only half the space it does now and only sat 40 people. tamer khldkdkddIn 1990, Khoury leased the place, and two restaurants opened in the building. One of which maintained providing Middle Eastern food, and the other was Mexican. It was left struggling with the economy until Khoury, along with his supporting family, took over the place again, remodeled it from inside and out, and reopened it in August 2002 as Khoury's Mediterranean Island. Alex became the owner that came back, but never really went away! The new restaurant now seats 120 people in two fancy dinning rooms and a modern Hooka Bar. Customers are welcomed by the enlarged market at the main entrance that serves a variety of groceries for those who want to try things at home.

This is a restaurant that has delicious and reasonably priced food. They used to be in our Butler-Tarkington neighborhood but it is worth the drive to eat there although they are farther away now.
