The Rock Lobster opened in April of 1993 as the second bar in Fred Treadway and Rob Sabatini's "Party Trifecta". Named after the B-52's song popular in the early 80's, The Rock was an overnight success as Indianapolis' first eighties bar (later expanded to include a more diverse music format).
