OK... when people south of Indy kept saying, "Long's Bakery"... I had no idea. Until I had a chance to try Long's doughnuts... Oh, My God. There is a tremendous difference! (They leave anything like Krispy Kreme IN THE DUST.) They ONLY take cash people so be prepared. The time I was there, doughnuts were flying out the door. I don't get near Longs very often; when I do, it's a treat.

A Rueben, please. What more can I say? Everything else pales by comparison. If ya want a great New York style Rueben, there is no other place. Shapiros is high quality... and yes, you pay for it. But it's worth it.

The only wrong with the Oaken Barrel is that it isn't near us. A good pub has to have great food AND great beer; this place has both. My husband, the beer person, loves to try new beers and has never been disappointed. Me, I like to eat, the food has to be good or we aren't going back--our local brewpub hasn't figured that one out yet.. so when we go, we take our business elsewhere... preferring to drive out of town when the mood strikes. Oaken Barrel's raspberry beer is excellent and the food choices are hearty, well-prepared pub fair with a flair.

I don't smoke but I LOVE going into this shop... from the wonderful rich smells of good cigars to watching someone expertly handrolling cigars to looking through the many, many cigar boxes the owner also sells. I always say, "hello" to the resident English Bulldog who "works" there. If you are going to smoke, this is the place to do it. It's warm and inviting.

Fresh, spicy, original, offers vegetarian options, AND where two can eat under $10 for mountains of good food! What more can I say? Yat's is locally owned and operated but their soul belongs in New Orleans. No chain restaurant mentality here. When a food offering is sold out, it's removed from the menu board. Go early for the best selection and take some home; it reheats well.

King Chef is the best sit-down Chinese food (in terms of quality AND value). Prefer it over PF Changs any day. The staff take excellent care of customers; food is always fresh and hot. My husband likes food spicy and they accomodate him very well.

India Sizzling's luncheon buffet is the best on the northside. The chef provides fresh, small batches of food beautifully presented. From the fresh raita (not sour), thick chutneys (never watery) to fresh masala dosas and naan to the table (not left in a warmer). He's no slouch with halwas or chocolate mouse either.

Big Hoffa's food is consistently good, his french fries are made to order-never warmed over, but he truly loves his business and it shows. His customers become his friends and he treats them as such. You will never find poor food or poor service here.
